FORMER PROSECUTOR
INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
Kristine Brown is a criminal lawyer with a proven track record with over 25 years of experience in criminal law. For 21 years she worked as a prosecutor for the county governments.

Education & Career

After graduating from the University Of Kansas School Of Law in 1987, she began working as a Deputy District Attorney at the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office. In 1990, she chose to move to a more rural setting, and began work with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office. Kristine remained employed with Douglas until her retirement in 2008. For the last eight years with the county prosecutor’s office, she served as the Chief Criminal Deputy, supervising the criminal division. During her tenure with Douglas County, Kristine was involved in the prosecution of four murder cases, including second chairing the prosecution in State vs. Thomas Soria, Sr., a capital murder case involving the death of a child. The case later became the subject of a book, Like Father, Like Son by Robert Scott.

Since her “retirement”, Kristine has had a private practice in the Gardnerville/Minden area. Her focus remains on criminal law and she now serves as a defense attorney. Since opening her practice, Kristine has been under contract with the county to provide legal services for indigent criminal defendants. The case load includes anything from simple misdemeanors to complicated, felony cases with multiple charges. In the last few years, Kristine has been appointed as lead counsel in three murder cases.

Her experience on both sides: first as a prosecutor and now as an aggressive and successful defense lawyer, helps her get excellent results for her clients.  She assists those who are facing criminal charges and the serious consequences of a conviction.

Personal Life

In her “spare time” Kristine also serves as the Director of Safe Haven Rescue Kennel in Yerington, NV.
Safe Haven's mission is Hope from Despair.  The focus is rescue, repair, rehabilitation, education and re-homing.  Safe Haven takes in at-risk dogs from shelters or under-socialized dogs from hoarders from failed sanctuaries.

The Law Office of Kristine L. Brown, LLC is also a major financial support for the rescue. Kristine is a foster mom for many of the Safe Haven dogs. You may meet a dog on its way to the vet or in need of socialization when you visit her office. Kristine’s weekends are dedicated to walking the dogs and working on the projects around the rescue.
